Dunbar UCC April 25, 2010 Matthew 19:15-18 Children’s Time
I. Who were the first children in the Bible? Why was Cain so angry with his brother Abel?
II. God said, “Cain, Why are you angry? Be careful -- the devil wants you to hurt your brother -- control yourself!”
III. Did Cain control his anger? When God asked him: “Cain, where is your brother?” -- Cain said, “How should I know? Am I my brother’s keeper?”
IV. And God didn’t answer that question -- but he sent Abraham, and Moses, and the prophets and Jesus to answer it. And what did they say? Are we supposed to take care of each other? Does it have to be one way?
V. Jesus said: “Unless we repent and become like children -- we will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” What do people do in the kingdom of heaven? (They live like Jesus) Can we live like that here on earth? (That’s what the Lord’s prayer says)
VI. Why do we have to be like a child to be in heaven? What’s the difference between a child and an adult? (children are “teachable”) Can an adult “repent” -- can an old dog learn new tricks? Can we all learn to be like Jesus no matter what age we are? Jesus said we could. Let us pray.... |
